Introduction to Weaving - Back Strap Weaving
January 26, 2018, 10:00am - January 26, 2018, 4:00pm
Spend a day with local Textile Designer and Hand-weaver Rebecca Connelly exploring the craft of Weaving. This Introduction to Weaving workshop is suitable for all ages, no experience is required. For those with some experience you will be able to develop your weave technique and design skills. You will be using a Rigid Heddle and Back-strap.You will be making/winding a warp in a single yarn/colour and multiple yarns and colours to create your own weave design ideas. You will learn starting, ending. joining yarns, changing colours and weaving using two colours creating proportion and texture. The wonderful things about this form of weaving are: - the equipment is very ‘low tech’ and inexpensive if you want to buy your own - it is very portable so you can weave anywhere, inside or outside, standing or sitting. You can weave cloth in a ‘conventional’ form or weave an ‘art piece’ incorporating all manner of materials. Rebecca can have absolute beginners weaving within a very short space of time. Cost £65 to include all materials & tools, tea and coffee. Please bring your own lunch.
