OLD HANDS REGAIN TROPHY IN CHEDWORTH TOURNAMENT 2010
Catherine Rowan from Sherborne, Dorset and David Sewell from London will again have their names engraved on the Speke Challenge Cup following their win against defending champions David Horlock and Elizabeth Ground at the Coln Valley Annual Mixed Doubles Tournament in Chedworth on Saturday 12 June. Ninety six players including entrants from London, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire took part with the standard as high as ever. It was a classic day of sociable, competitive tennis in picturesque surroundings on courts kindly loaned for the day in Coln St Dennis, Coln Rogers, Withington, Winson, Calmsden, Fossebridge, Perrotts Brook, Rendcomb, Shipton Oliffe and Bibury.
In the afternoon contest for the Scott-Smith Salver Nigel Pattinson and Annabel Harding defeated Nigel and Natalie Magson.
Established 28 years ago, the tournament was sponsored for the fifth year running by Far Frontiers Travel Ltd, the tailor-made travel specialist based in Devon. The balls were provided by local firm D&J Sports. The event raises money for the Hill & Valley Lawn Tennis Club, which hopes to add two more courts in the future, and for the churches of Chedworth, Coln St Dennis and Coln Rogers.
