Nikki Jones has kindly pointed out that Archaeological Excavations of the Sisters Long Barrow are taking place up to 24th August (excluding Monday 22nd) at Abbey Home Farm. It is open to visitors & volunteers from 9 am to 5 pm.
So a chance to see archaeological excavations in action!
Long barrows were built between about 3800 and 3400 BC throughout the Atlantic coastlands of northwest Europe, from Scandinavia to Brittany. They are the earliest substantial monuments to be built in the Cotswolds.
If you are interested in volunteering for a day or more please contact Professor Tim Darvill at tdarvill@bournemouth.ac.uk for more information. Previous experience is not essential.
